You’ve always been a fan of modern art and high design.

So when it comes to choosing your next home why not live in a temple of cool?

The white hot lobby of new luxury apartment building 650 Sixth houses White Space, a gallery that’ll make you feel like you’re strolling through the Sagamore in Miami. But White Space has New York soul. A stone’s throw from the gallery district, the lobby’s rotating artwork is provided by West Chelsea Gallery owner Jack Shainman.

The pieces are available for viewing and purchase, as well as serving as high-end eye candy for potential apartment buyers in the sales office section.

And if you buy one of the ultra mod, sleek and linear apartments you’ll be able to view the art in your own lobby every day. Should a piece strike your fancy, it can be installed in your apartment at the end of the month when the next rotation of artwork is displayed.

“We really wanted people to feel the connection with the art,” says SHVO real estate president Michael Shvo. “You buy an apartment, you have these amazing white walls and you need to put something beautiful on them.”

The apartments, which you peek at in the gallery, were designed as a white canvas. Sketches, digital renderings, and three dimensional depictions of them are on display at White Space.

So you can view a life-sized model bathroom flaunting a beautiful white tub, beside West African photography and New York modern art sculptures.

Your home as an art installation?

The picture of cool.

Free drinks, pretty people, and air conditioning! That’s why we recommend visiting one of our featured events in this Art + Design issue.

First up is Spencer Tunick. You know, Mr. Avant Garde photographer of nekked people. You’ve probably seen his work on HBO. Now see his collection at I-20’s gallery in Chelsea.

Next, based upon your enthusiastic response from our Gisele feature, we recommend the Museum of Modern Art’s Fashioning Fiction in Photography since 1990 exhibit. It’s a schlepp on the 7 train but you’ll be greeted by the gorgeous works of Nan Goldin, Steven Miesel, and Juergen Teller.

Bad hair day or not, we’re blowing our start-up capital on fine Italian furniture at qui New York. In honor of the upcoming International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), qui will be hosting a special exhibit, Flavors of Italian Design for the American Palette, starting May 15th to the 18th, from 12pm-5pm.

Also in honor of the ICFF, Felissimo Design House presents WOW! DESIGN, an exhibit on truly innovative furniture. We’re betting Dafna Bloch’s Folding Table, a sturdy table that even folds away, will be a big hit. For more Felissimo, click here.
