Italian Tapas and Dolci in the Flatiron

Bar Stuzzichini Opens

You want the Scamorza Alla Brace (grilled smoked mozzarella). No, you want the Olive Farcite (stuffed olives). Oooh, no, you want the Vongole Al Vapore (steamed clams).

You can have ‘em all at Bar Stuzzichini, the new Flatiron bar and restaurant opening this week. Here the Italians have taken up competition with the Spanish tapas occupation in NYC, bringing their own version, stuzzichini, of the small plate to the limelight.

At Bar Stuzzichini, the authentic fare from southern Italy mingles with the country’s custom of enjoying an aperitif while drinking and standing at the bar. Tired legs can rest at seats in the back as well.

Bar Stuzzichini will be open for dinner this week with a limited menu, and will open with full menus and hours (which include lunch) next week.

We recommend giving the place a taste with a stuzzichini platter, which offers one of each category of the eponymous small plate items for only $22.

Of course selecting a wine from a list of 70 to compliment them all won’t be as easy. But if you try them all, we doubt you’ll be able to have your torta caprese (chocolate hazelnut cake) and eat it, too.
