Falafel at Taj Almoulouk

Eat Like An Egyptian

Taj Almoulouk Opens

Men love Middle Eastern food. Shawarma, baba ganoush, hummus, whatever - the more mysterious it sounds, the better it must taste.

Lucky for you then, that Taj Almoulouk, a tiny, Egyptian-accented oasis just opened in the East Village.

Two former employees of the notable Moustache restaurants preside over the orange-colored storefront, taking extra time in the kitchen to churn out excellent fare, including an awesome hummus that gets whipped up fresh with tangy dollops of olive oil and is then is topped with whole chickpeas, diced tomatoes, and paprika. Also on the menu are made to order breads worthy of blue ribbons: defined by their light, flaky, and not overly doughy consistency. Get them in sandwich form, especially when they’re embedded with Taj’s ethereal amber colored, disc-shaped falafel.

End your meal with sweet Moroccan mint tea and a flavored hookah, as the restaurant turns into a late night coffee shop for the neighborhood’s revelers.
