Sartorial SplendorOliver Spencer New York Flagship Monday, January 8, 2007 When it comes to dressing well, you lead the pack. So, it makes sense that you’re just slightly obsessed with British fashion. Your closet: Thomas Pink shirts, Paul Smith ties, and Thom Browne suits. But, for those days when the ultra-tailored yet splashy Saville Row look just isn’t necessary, think Oliver Spencer. The young British designer’s relaxed, quirky urban fashions have graced the backs of Sir Paul and the Rolling Stones, but no longer is his collection limited to the racks of Bloomingdale’s. In partnership with menswear paradise Odin New York, Spencer just opened his first boutique in the West Village where you can land his not overly-tailored city casual designs. You’ll find velvet jackets with printed linings, detachable collared shirts paired with hooded cardigans, and stylishly moody overcoats that don’t take themselves too seriously. Not to mention ridiculously hot, vintage 1970’s Linda Farrow sunglasses, dapper Stetsons, and Comme de Garçons accessories in the woodsy, Darwinian shop that Oliver bills as “a modern Victorian gentleman’s outfitters”. Spencer’s dressed-up yet dressed-down look works perfectly for laid-back Saturday nights and Sunday brunch, and with the Spotted Pig just across the street, the boutique’s location is a little too perfect.
