La Tomatina Festival |
Killer TomatoesLa Tomatina Festival in Buñol, Spain Friday, August 29, 2003 What better way to end this pseudo work week than to bring you some freshly squeezed pictures from Spain? Every year since 1944, the tiny town of Buñol kicks off a week of revelry with a bang. The tradition goes that on the last Wednesday of August, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the entire town of 8,000 residents gathers to throw tomatoes at each other. The rules of the game are tomatoes only, and squish before throwing. The dress code is beach wear and the party is smashing. The tomato battles are appetizers to an upcoming entrée of festivities featuring musical bands, food, and fireworks. Buñol is located 30 miles west of Valencia and tourist friendly. See you there, next year! |
